How Long Does a Full House Repaint Take?
Honest timeframes for interior and exterior repaints, and the factors that stretch or shorten a painting schedule.

It is the first question most people ask, and the honest answer is: it depends on the house. What we can do is explain what drives the schedule, and put the timeframe in your written quote once we have seen the job.
What sets the timeframe
- Size and layout. More rooms, higher ceilings and stairwells all add time. Double-height entries and voids need extra access gear.
- Condition of the surfaces. Cracks, flaking paint, water damage and old gloss that needs sanding back all take time to fix properly. Prep is most of the job, and it is the part we will not rush.
- What is being painted. Walls only is quicker than walls, ceilings, doors, frames and skirting. Trims and doors take longer than their size suggests.
- Colour changes. Going from a dark colour to a light one can need an extra coat to cover evenly.
- Furniture and access. An empty house is faster than a lived-in one, where furniture has to be moved, sheeted and moved back.
Exteriors depend on the weather
Outside work needs dry surfaces and suitable temperatures for the paint to cure. Rain, heavy dew and strong wind all pause the job. A good schedule allows for that rather than painting over damp surfaces to stay on time.
Living in the house while we paint
Most interior repaints are done with people living at home. We work room by room where we can, keep a clean path through the house, and pack up tidily at the end of each day.
Getting a real answer
Once we have seen the house, the written quote sets out the scope and the expected timeframe, and the number you approve is the number on the invoice. Request a free quote, or see how we approach residential painting.
